"\\r\\n<br><p>\\n<h2 class=\\"intro\\">\\n\\u2018It is a cyber-weapon being unleashed on Indian polity.... poses a national security risk\\u2019\\n<\\\/h2>\\n<\\\/p><div id=\\"content-body-14269002-35459339\\">\\n<p>A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into reports of government using <a href=\\"https:\\\/\\\/www.thehindu.com\\\/news\\\/national\\\/several-delhi-based-diplomats-staff-of-international-ngos-on-pegasus-list\\\/article35413018.ece\\">Israeli software Pegasus<\\\/a> to spy on its critics, Opposition leaders, activists, journalists and even on its own Ministers.<\\\/p><p>The petition filed by Supreme Court advocate Manohar Lal Sharma asked \\u201cwhether the Constitution allows the Prime Minister and his Minister to snoop on citizens of India for their vested political interest\\u201d.<\\\/p><p>\\u201cPegasus is not just a surveillance tool. It is a cyber-weapon being unleashed on the Indian polity. It does not speak well of us as a democracy. It also does not speak well of us as a capable State. The widespread and unaccountable use of surveillance is morally disfiguring.\\u201d<\\\/p><p>It said the right to privacy was not about the wish to hide, as is often asserted.<\\\/p><p>\\u201cIt is about having a space of one\\u2019s own where our thoughts and our being are not the instrument of someone else\\u2019s purposes.
